Here are the official images of the new 2012 F10 BMW M5 concept. Unveiled in Munich, the new super-saloon concept features a deeper front bumper, subtly-wider front wings and signature, chrome-rimmed air vents and LED repeater lamps.
Other external details include M-specific 20-inch alloys clad in 265/35 ZR20 tyres at the front and 265/35 ZR20 tyres at the back, and M-specific lowered suspension. At the rear, the concept sports a lip spoiler and a re-profiled bumper with central diffuser to further enhance downforce levels.
The M5 will be powered by a 4.4-litre, twin turbocharged V8 engine, with output estimated at around 560bhp. All this is transferred to the rear wheels via a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox.
Compared with the fourth-gen M5, the newly developed engine has a ‘significantly increased output level’ according to the firm. On top of this, the introduction of a start-stop system also lowers fuel consumption and emissions levels by ‘at least 25 per cent’ over the outgoing model.
Four driving modes can be chosen and include Comfort, Sport, and Sport-Plus as well as the full-fat M Driving mode. The new BMW M5 is planned to make its world debut as a thinly-disguised ‘concept’ at the Shanghai motor show later this month.
