BMW X5

The BMW X5 is a luxury mid-size SUV introduced in 1999 as the first generation E53. It was BMW's first SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) also known as "Four-by-Four" (4x4) in the UK. It features all-wheel drive which is branded as the "X" drive system and is available with either manual or automatic transmission. The second generation X5, known as the E70, was launched in 2006, with the first M version announced in 2009.
BMW describes the X5 as a Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) rather than an SUV, to emphasize its on-road ability despite its size. Like the Lexus RX 300 and Mercedes M-Class, the X5 heralded the shift from truck-based body-on-frame SUVs to sedan-based crossovers that would come to fruition in the late 2000s.

X5s are manufactured in Greer, South Carolina at the Spartanburg BMW plant or Toluca, Mexico at the BMW de México plant.[1]. Since July 2009, some assembly operations are also performed in Kaliningrad, Russia by Avtotor.

In 2003, BMW launched the smaller X3, which uses the "X" prefix for the 4 wheel drive system or BMW "X" drive system and the BMW SAVs which were derivatives of the BMW number-series models.

This car has power and performance into the character of BMW M cars, produced by a new engine with Twin Turbo M TwinPower Scroll Twin Turbo Technology as well as the exhaust manifold that extends over a row of cylinders. This car provides response and exceptional spontaneity, boost engine power is linear, and torque is remarkably consistent.

M TwinPower new Turbo engine is capable of generating power and higher performance while maintaining fuel efficiency. This machine is equipped with High Precision Direct Injection technology and a variety of BMW EfficientDynamics. This machine requires only an average of 14.3 liters of fuel to travel 100 kilometers, with an average flue gas CO2 per kilometer of 335gram. This engine meets Euro-5 standard.

BMW X5 M car is the latest all-wheel-drive is the first production of BMW M GmbH, which combines the BMW xDrive and Dynamic Performance Control with all the standards and quality which is the character of the cars M. This car carries the characteristics of excellent driving dynamics and supported the stability and exceptional traction. Driving pleasure offered by this car also combined with the agility that is unmatched in its segment.

BMW Z3

The Z3 was designed by Joji Nagashima of the BMW design team and developed from the E36 platform of the 3 Series. The resulting platform is sometimes referred to as the E36/7 (roadster) or E36/8 (coupé). The rear semi-trailing arm suspension from the E30 was used rather than the more sophisticated multilink suspension from the E36. At first, only the 1.9 L M44B19 straight-4 engine was offered, but its 138 hp (103 kW) was not up to buyers' expectations. Interior appointments too were not up to the standard of other BMW models, and the plastic rear window looked poor compared to the glass unit found on the much less expensive Mazda MX5 (Miata).

In 1997 a more powerful 6-cylinder engine was added. The 2.8 L engine (M52B28), similar to the BMW M52 straight-6 in the 328i except with an all aluminum block and head, was especially desirable with its 189 hp (141 kW). The M Roadster appeared in 1998 with a 3.2 L S52B32 engine (North America) or more powerful 3.2 L S50B32 engine (International). In 1999, the 1.9 L 4-cylinder engine was replaced with a 2.5 L straight-6 M52TUB25, producing 170 hp (130 kW) in North America. Due to marketing, BMW wanted to
differentiate the 2.8 L engine from the 2.5 L engine, so it was badged 2.3 just like the 3-Series 323i, which also has a 2.5 L engine. Outside of North America, the 1.9 L 4-cylinder was replaced with a 2.0 L straight-6 in 1999, with 148 hp (110 kW).

There have been V8 engines fitted into the Z3 by German tuning companies AC Schnitzer (4.4L in roadster version, no series production) [4] and Hartge (5.0L in Coupé version, titled Hartge Z3 MQP V8).[5]
BMW Z3 Facelift in Dakar Yellow

All of the engines were replaced for 2000. The range consisted of the 2.2 L M54B22 (available outside North America), 2.5 L M54B25, 3.0 L M54B30, and (for the M Roadster) 3.2 L S54B32. All three of these straight-6 engines lasted through the end of the car's run in 2002. Also updated was the car's interior appointments, though the plastic window remained.

BMW X6

BMW has announced the North American availability of a comprehensive suite of BMW Performance accessories for its segment-busting X6 Sports Activity Coupe. The new BMW Performance parts for the X6 include the Power Kit, aerodynamics components, unique light-alloy wheels, and a new flat-bottom Sport steering wheel, and will go on sale at authorized BMW centers in October 2010. “BMW remains committed to helping customers personalize their vehicles,” said Dan Creed, Vice President of Marketing for BMW of North America. “The BMW X6 leaves our South Carolina factory as one of the most exciting vehicles on the road, possessing near-perfect balance, power, style, and versatility. The new BMW Performance accessories for the X6 serve to make it more powerful and more stylish, and enhance its trademark balance.”

Power Kit and High Performance Exhaust System
Perhaps the most exciting new development is the announcement of a BMW Performance Power Kit for 2008-2010 X6 xDrive35i and X6
xDrive50i models. The Power Kit for the X6 features special software developed and tested in-house by BMW powertrain engineers, and enhances the driving experience by providing higher engine output and responsiveness without increasing fuel consumption or exhaust emissions. The results are 320 horsepower (+20) and 332 lb-ft of torque (+32) for the X6 xDrive35i and 440 hp (+40) and 480 lb-ft of
torque (+30) for the X6 xDrive50i. Each model reaches 60mph from a standstill 0.2-second
quicker when equipped with the Power Kit (6.3 seconds for the X6 xDrive35i with Power Kit and 5.0 seconds for the X6 xDrive50i with Power Kit). 50-75mph passing acceleration times are reduced by about 0.5 seconds for each model.

BMW Performance is also developing a high-performance exhaust system for V8 and inline-6 powered variants of the X6, and will announce availability of the system this winter.

Aerodynamics
Directly from BMW’s state-of-the-art Munich wind tunnel comes the comprehensive new BMW Performance Aero Kit for the X6 Sports Activity Coupe (excluding X6 M and ActiveHybrid X6 models). The Aero Kit, which includes redesigned front and rear bumper covers, side skirts, and rear bumper insert, is specifically sculpted to reduce aerodynamic drag and lift at high speeds, improving stability while making a dramatic, stylish statement. Additionally, new specially-sculpted Rear Fins and Rear Deck Spoiler may be added to fully complement the aerodynamic signature of the X6.

Wheels
BMW Performance has created a stunning set of 21-inch light-alloy wheels for the X6 Sports Activity Coupe (all models including X6 M and ActiveHybrid X6). Measuring 10”x21” with 285/35/R21 tires up front and 11.5”x21” with 325/30/R21 tires at rear, the unique spoke design features a polished outer surface with unique inner contours which dramatically highlight the powerful, athletic character of the X6.

Steering Wheel
Last but not least, BMW Performance has made available a unique multifunction steering wheel for X6 models (excluding X6 M and vehicles with Lane Departure Warning). This direct replacement for the standard X6 steering wheel features a thick, racing-style, flattened lower rim and is fully covered in hand-stitched Alcantara material. Since the steering wheel serves as the driver’s primary interface with the X6, the BMW Performance Steering Wheel has been designed to place maximum emphasis on the importance of the man-machine connection.

All-new BMW 1-series to be soon bounded in indian car market

BMW has revealed its all new 1-series hatchback (codename: F20) which goes on sale in the international market in September this year.  The India launch is expected a year later in the second half of 2012. The 1-series is the smallest (and cheapest) BMW in the range which is why the company sees great potential for its all-new five-door hatchback in the Indian market.

Encouraged by the sales of the X1, BMW feels confident that a sub-Rs 20 lakh BMW could further boost sales and it is for this reason that the company has increased capacity in its plant outside Chennai from 8,000 to 10,000 units per year. BMW hopes the 1-series will carve out a new niche for itself here as a powerful, premium rear-drive hatchback, so expect prices to be in the range of around Rs 15-18 lakh.

With its striking design — the shark-nose treatment up front, the kidney grille that leans forward, clamshell bonnet and recessed headlights — it certainly looks the part of a premium hatch. The surface treatment along the sides isn’t as conflicting as the current 1-series and to allow for a large tail-gate aperture, the tail-lamps have been pushed, VW Polo-style, to the extremities of the rear.

Based on the same platform architecture as the 3-series, it shares some major components with the ‘3’ including its front MacPherson struts and multi-link rear suspension.

It’s not as small as it looks in the pictures though. At 4.2 metres long and with a wheelbase that has been stretched by 30mm over the current 1-series, this car is more midsize saloon than small hatch. These dimensions promise a roomy, comfortable cabin. Expect cabin quality to be closer to the X3 and 3-series as well.

Helping distance the 1-series from ‘junta’ hatchbacks is a BMW’s rear-wheel-drive layout and previously unheard of power for a hatchback here. Internationally, BMW is offering a 1.6-litre petrol engine in two states of tune and a 2.0-litre diesel with three different power outputs, but Indian cars might share engines with the X1 in the interests of costs. This means a 2.0-litre, 181bhp diesel and a 150bhp, 2.0-litre petrol with a distant possibility of a hot 168bhp direct-injection petrol.

The 1-series could be an inviting proposition for someone who already owns a BMW and wants a small, yet premium hatchback, to punt around town. If BMW prices it right, the 1-series has the potential to dispel the misconception that premium cars have to be premium-sized and could propel the German carmaker’s sales to another level.

BMW 1 Series is a small car by BMW and was first introduced in 2004 in the world. In India, the hatchback will be the first small car offering by the German car company. Out of the five different body styles including three-door, five-door, convertible, coupe and an electric version, it is expected that BMW will probably introduce either the three-door or five-door version in India. It is also quite a possibility that both the three door and five door versions of the BMW 1 Series will be unveiled in India. The BMW 1 series launch in India is expected to be scheduled this September. The archrivals of BMW 1 series in the luxury car market in India would be Mercedes Benz and Audi. The BMW 1 Series price in India is expected to be around Rs 18 lakh to Rs 20 Lakh.

BMW 1 Series Description :

Pictures of camouflaged the 5 door variant started appearing as soon as BMW 1 series launch in India date nears. The BMW 1-series is a small premium hatchback that has many similarities with the BMW 3 Series cars. Especially the structure and chassis are alike in both the car series. The powertrain, hardware and electronic elements inside the BMW 1 Series are also quite the same as the BMW 3 Series. This small car by BMW was initially launched (not in India) as a five-door hatchback but later BMW also came up with a two-door sports version as well in 2007. At the time of its launch BMW has priced the BMW 1 Series between the BMW Mini and BMW E90 3 Series. The BMW 1 Series is the only rear wheel drive car in its segment. Internationally the BMW 1 Series line is manufactured at Leipzig, Germany.

The car has BMW’s EfficientDynamics in place that ascertains that the car emits less pollutants and gives ultimate driving pleasure. Initial reports suggest that India would get the five-door version of BMW 1 Series but speculations are also on that the three-door version could also be there.

BMW 1 Series is expected to be available in India in four-cylinder engine options. The 116i base model comes with a petrol driven 1.6 liter direct injection 136bhp engine while there is a 170 bhp engine in the BMW 118i. The BMW 1 Series will also be available in a range of diesel engines that is hope to be a 2.0 liter engine with 116bhp, 143bhp and 184bhp power. At a later stage BMW 1 Series will also be available in 2.0 liter engines in India as it is presently in the BMW 120d. There are also reports that the hatchback will also be available in three-cylinder economical engine options as well.

The BMW 1 Series 3-door has sporting qualities that are quite distinguishable. Being the first in the class car to have a rear wheel drive, the compact car delivers exceptional performance with incomparable dynamism. With such power underneath, the BMW 1 Series zooms to its best by bringing in whole of the power of the engine on the roads. The BMW 1 Series also is equipped with equal axle load distribution coupled with Active Steering which is available only in the BMW 1 Series 130i outputs effortless driving pleasure and agility to the car while on the drive or at the time of parking.

On the other hand the BMW 1 Series 5-door car, which has more probability to hit Indian roads, has a perfect blend of agility and elegance. The elongated bonnet coupled with front and rear seats inside present dynamism to the car and the looks moving even when it is stationary, this is what BMW calls dynamism in its cars. The hatchback BMW 1 Series is controlled by Dynamic Stability Control that detects every move of the drive and intervenes if necessary; therefore, we can be sure that any oversteering or understeering will be handled by DSC well. The BMW 1 Series engines are also equipped with Intelligent Energy Management feature. The system turns off the engines at places where no power is needed such as at traffic lights. The Brake Energy Regeneration Mechanism also has prominence in the BMW 1 Series and with it no energy goes waste during braking and is utilized in generating power. The two systems hand-in-hand makes the BMW 1 Series a car with improved performance and fuel efficient. When such energy saving and fuel efficient mechanism are tuned in with a six speed transmission it is sure that all the power of the engines are transmitted on to the road.

BMW X5 3.0d test drive review

You will need a magnifying glass to spot the differences on this new X5. That’s because the only noticeable changes are the white ‘corona rings’ and the front bumper, which gets BMW ‘M’ car-like air intakes (actually only one side is an actual intake for the intercooler). You can discount the wheels and lower-profile tyres because there is a range to choose from, and you’ll need to switch the tail-lights on to see the additional detailing in them. Oh, and the headlights get new white LEDs. So, for all practical purposes, the new BMW X5 looks very much like the old X5 and there is some sense in that. For an SUV that still looks modern, there’s no sense in going for an expensive mid-life makeover, is there?
Step inside and the changes are as subtle. There’s a chunkier steering wheel but, strangely, the iDrive screen is smaller than the one in the pre-facelift version. Build quality is top-notch as always and the seats are really comfy; also, the clarity of the switch layout is nice. The only real criticism we could level at the cabin was we found the headlight switch to be tiny and very fiddly.
The big news is this X5 gets a stonker of an engine. The 408bhp, 4.4-litre, twin-turbo petrol V8 that’s in the X6 is here with the X5 xDrive50i. We’re waiting to test it.
For now, we have to make do with the more practical and completely impressive 3.0-litre diesel in-line six. It makes 10bhp more and 2kgm of torque over the old 3.0d and, by the sound of it, is a tad more refined than before. The engine’s prodigious 55kgm of torque arrives early in the rev range to make light work of the xDrive30d’s considerable 2150kg kerb weight, endowing it with excellent step-off, solid in-gear shove and a good turn of speed.
The 245bhp makes its way from the engine through a new eight-speed auto to all four wheels, and operates in a more decisive and intuitive nature than the old six-speed unit. This is noticeable especially on downshifts. Where the old ’box demanded you lift off the throttle and keep tugging the gearlever, this new ’box goes down cogs more readily when you ask for it. Those extra couple of cogs also maximise the 3.0d’s cruising potential.
We’ve always found the X5’s ride to be the best among its competition and this one, if anything, rides even better. There’s a nice absorbent way it takes our roads in its stride and crashes only through the sharper potholes. We did get a bit of bobbing over expansion joints but, otherwise, there was no reason to complain. And, you don’t have to worry – unlike a few recent BMWs, this still handles like you expect it to. It steers accurately, responds well and its body movements are tightly controlled. It really is as much of a hoot as you can expect a two-tonne vehicle to be.
At its most basic spec, BMW will charge you Rs 53 lakh for it, which is Rs 3 lakh less than the pre-facelift car. But basic in German terms means you get dual-zone climate control, a six-CD changer, cruise control, 12 speakers, powered seats, leather seats, a gazillion airbags, ESP, ABS, Hill Descent Control and the iDrive system. Whew!
Then there’s the long options list (some of which should be standard) which, if you tick all the options, can add a BMW 3 Series to the price. Nonetheless, what BMW has done is taken what we’ve always loved about the X5 and improved it subtly. What could be better?

The New BMW M5 concept (first look)

Here are the official images of the new 2012 F10 BMW M5 concept. Unveiled in Munich, the new super-saloon concept features a deeper front bumper, subtly-wider front wings and signature, chrome-rimmed air vents and LED repeater lamps.
Other external details include M-specific 20-inch alloys clad in 265/35 ZR20 tyres at the front and 265/35 ZR20 tyres at the back, and M-specific lowered suspension. At the rear, the concept sports a lip spoiler and a re-profiled bumper with central diffuser to further enhance downforce levels.
The M5 will be powered by a 4.4-litre, twin turbocharged V8 engine, with output estimated at around 560bhp. All this is transferred to the rear wheels via a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox.
Compared with the fourth-gen M5, the newly developed engine has a ‘significantly increased output level’ according to the firm. On top of this, the introduction of a start-stop system also lowers fuel consumption and emissions levels by ‘at least 25 per cent’ over the outgoing model.
Four driving modes can be chosen and include Comfort, Sport, and Sport-Plus as well as the full-fat M Driving mode. The new BMW M5 is planned to make its world debut as a thinly-disguised ‘concept’ at the Shanghai motor show later this month.
